'Phantom' has arrived
The Kennedy Center Opera House becomes the Opera Garnier beginning Wednesday for this summer's eight-week "Phantom of the Opera" run. From the falling chandelier to the elaborate sets and costumes, all of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical masterpiece will live again. Tickets range from $36 to $94. Showtimes vary. Founding Father's day
Sunday is Fathers' Day, and at Mount Vernon the Father of His Country (a reasonable facsimile, that is) will discuss his role as husband, stepfather and Founding Father in the Little Theater at 11 a.m. and 1 and 3 p.m. Fathers visiting the estate will receive complimentary admission to George Washington's new distillery and gristmill. Admission to Mount Vernon is $13 for adults and $6 for children. Admission to the distillery and gristmill is $4 for adults and $2 for children. Children under 5 are admitted free. Tha Bloc
Photographer and poet Ellis Marsalis III presents his visual ode to one block in Baltimore with "Voices & Visions of Tha Bloc." The exhibit, on display at the Anacostia Community Museum, blends poetry and 27 black-and-white photographs of residents going through their daily lives. "Tha Bloc" is on view through Aug. 12. Riverdance returns
Riverdance, the multimedia Irish dance showcase, makes its 10th annual return to Wolf Trap's Filene Center tonight. Mixing elements of traditional Irish step dancing and contemporary theatrics, the company has performed for millions worldwide since its inception in 1994.
